Rakaposhi is a mountain in the Karakorum range in the Gilgit Baltistan area of Pakistan it means Snow Covered. It is 7,800 m high and is visible from the Karakorum Highway. It is situated in the Nagar Valley and Danyore and Bagrote valley, approximately 100 Km north of the Gilgit. The mountain is also known as Dumain, which is called Mother of the Mist or Mother of the Cloud. It is the 27th highest ranked mountain in the world and is one of the most beautiful mountains.

 

Tour to Rakaposhi

There are many travel companies in Pakistan that are offering tourism at the Rakaposhi Camp. In order to climb, you first have to reach the Base Camp. Climbing this beautiful place is the duration of 2 to 3 days. The mountain is all covered by the numberless glaciers, approximately 20m high. On your way, there will be the countless peaks belonging to the Karakorum range to the Base Camp.

You need a guide in order to travel to the Rakaposhi. First, you have to get to the Diran Base Camp. It is composed of highly dangerous crevasses approximately 30m deep. Here you require plenty of experience in crossing glaciers. The glaciers in this place are quite tall, however, these are easy to climb. For this, you should have proper shoes.

Rakaposhi Weather

It can only be hiked in May-September. Here the last days of May are pretty hot however, the nights are significantly cold. It also rains sometimes. The mountain is more slippery in summer. Food and accommodation are offered by the locals at Rakaposhi. For this, you have to borrow a tent and bag. You will be offered with three meals a day which the locals have prepared with much love.

Islamabad is the nearest international hub where flights arrive from around the world. Gilgit is the suburb in Northern Areas and is served by regular transport from North to the South. PIA also operates between Islamabad and Gilgit while tickets can be booked either through offices or website. There are also the regular flights to Skardu which operate at a high percentage of time meanwhile there is also the network of buses all around Pakistan and Gilgit Baltistan.
